the best one to ask is Jos Poortvliet, he made the change.
The content of our github came from gitorious.org/openSUSE-Artwork (now deleted) and not from the 'Art' repository. The 'Art' repository basically was the place where Robert Lihm worked on the artwork and everyone else worked in openSUSE-Artwork. I worked with Robert to move most of the stuff from Art to openSUSE-Artwork and what is left is, I believe, the 'core' distro stuff like the bootup logo, application splashes and stuff like that. So, today, slides, posters, flyers and all marketing related stuff is on github now. gitorious only host distro art - anything else should be DELETED and moved to github. I would advocate to move the last stuff from art to github too, btw. Those working on the distro art - Kent, Bruno, Richard, Eugene, etc: your choice! /J

So far I understand, some time ago all artwork was moved to:
https://github.com/openSUSE/artwork
from
https://gitorious.org/opensuse/art
but checking activity at gitorius it is obvious that is still used.
Can some kind soul explain me what is status of github vs. gitorius?
