Dear Andi.
I think that while that was an interesting idea, mathematical shapes do not seem to represent the best or most recognizable feature of openSUSE, namely the color green and the gecko.
Did you take part in the discussion when it happened and raised your complaints? I do not remember so.
I don't know about Andi, but I was not involved with artwork when that discussion happened, but I can agree with him that there are better things than output from "surf". Of course, when I used bezier-curves, gradients and ellipses in inkscape, one could understand that those were "mathematical shapes", too. That would allow for about anything including the very nice art from Piotr,
Ciao Bernhard M.
I've just some questions that raise now : - First 12.1 is a revolution for us, first non novell sponsored release - Will include Gnome3 - will include kde 4.7 or 4.8 - will include kernel 3 - will include systemd etc .. Then we should ask ourself what feeling the booting artwork and the display manager should give to our users (the very ancient, the old, and the new one) If you assist to some talks given by master, an artwork has to generate a emotion. Actually what I've seen is a retaste of old artwork we already have, so what's new ? nothing We have to be really really really more inventive, even let's break all rules that struggle us actually and make something really freaky, funky, modern new for the boot splash and login manager. We can always have a -traditional- package added for those who doesn't like it. Next point : I've discuss with some people from several major desktop and it seems that the big trend actually is once the user enter his xsession, it become it's own sphere, and so let the upstream branding as default for the desktop. (xfce, gnome, lxde, enlightment want that). I know that the situation is different for kde, which in openSUSE/SuSE has a for a long time several artwork and modifications. other point : Branding, artwork etc, will not be only a question of one image, it's also all the stuff that need to be done, put in rpm, and finally pushed in factory. Don't forget, all the stuff need to be free in terms of rights, and in svg format Final point : I dream about a new artwork team, where at least 5 artists really cooperate thinking about new ideas and work as team, not just a contest about who made a nice picture. I know this is a bit unusual in that area. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot
