The thing is that when I change vga-mode to 0x303 (800x600+256 colours) in
menu.lst I don't get a boot splash at all.
I assumed this was because our bootsplash requires a higher colour depth. But
trying to make them 256 colours with convert didn't help.
So maybe something else causes there to be no boot splash with poorer
vga-modes.
