Apparently sd card access, touchscreen support and rpi3 support are problematic areas: http://ht4u.net/news/31929_linux_45_mit_support_fuer_uefi_amd_und_raspberry_... 3d acceleration support is also supposed to get a significant boost with 4.6: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Linux-4.6-RPi-Faster-3D So I think it's reasonable to provide an upstream based image for the RPi2, but we should hold back with a real switchover until 4.6.
