Hi, since I didn't find this browsing manually through the archives (will there ever be a search function for SuSE mailing lists??? :-)) I send this for information for other users that might step on it: The tg3 network driver can fail on 64bit systems when the memory remapping around the memory hole at 3.5GB (look here for an explanation: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-amd64/2005-Jul/0071.html) is activated. On my Asus A8V board with AMD64 4000+ CPU and a 3com 3C996B-T network card, the tg3 driver fails with tg3.c: v3.31 (June 8, 2005) tg3_test_dma() Write the buffer failed -19 tg3: DMA engine test failed, aborting. when I've either Software- or Hardware-base memory remapping activated in the bios. As soon as I deactivate both of these options, the card and the driver work fine. Of course, Linux doesn't see all of the 4GB then (only 3.7GB), but that's better than having no network :-) And I need to deactivate the remapping anyway to get 3D acceleration for the fglrx driver running... Maybe this helps other people that have problems with the tg3 driver! cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. Frank Steiner Web: http://www.bio.ifi.lmu.de/~steiner/ Lehrstuhl f.
