I have not tried getting it strait from nvidia and compiling again, that may
work, I think the last time I tried it I had an error about not being able to
compile for the kernel, but it's worth a shot. At least you can use the
command line to try this.

The issue arrises after you have started xdm, you can't get anything off the
tty's etc...., just a black screen.
