SOLVED NIS client configuration problems on SuSE 9.1

      I've finally solved my NIS client configuration problems.

Problem summary: YaST configuration of NIS client fails; ypbind never finds 
NIS server.

Resolution: Invoke domainname <yp-domain> before YaST.

Why this should be, I have no idea. The problem has been repeated on three 
SunFire V20z boxes on which I installed 9.1 with default settings. On all 
three ypbind failed to start during YaST configuration, unless I'd called 
domainname first.
