Folks: Tyan s2880 motherboard, dual 246's, 2 GB ram, 2.02 thunder bios. Runs 9.0 SuSE pro AMD64 booting from patch CD. 9.1 failed to load, hanging at a floppy.1: loading nvram_ type message for yast. 9.2 does the same thing. Turning off apic (noapic on boot param line) and acpi gets me past that to graphical yast2, which then completely hangs machine. Right before language selection. How can I force text only yast2 on install? Note also: Fedora Core 2 x86_64, Ubuntu AMD64, and a number of other AMD64 based installs go on there smoothly, and are working in other partitions. Hardware passes long memtest tests (3+ days, no errors), long CPU calc tests (mostly comp-chem and comp-bio stuff). Been functional for about a year on other distros including older SuSE.
