I've been able to boot off harddrives attached to the SATA controller on a S2882 using 9.1. According to lspci, it lists it as:
03:05.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) Silicon Image SiI 3114 SATARaid Controller (rev 02)
This is using the included sata_sil driver... Note that none of the built-in raid stuff is supported.
Oho, so it does find sata_sil first on that hardware, unlike what happens with the Adaptec 3112 based card that I have. Sorry that I doubted you, but it sounded as if you were basing your reply on the documentation/code, rather than experience... -p -- O__ ---- Peter Dalgaard Blegdamsvej 3 c/ /'_ --- Dept. of Biostatistics 2200 Cph.
