xpdf update fails on some files

I did a YOU update on my SuSE 9.1 x86_64 box, which included the latest
xpdf. xpdf hangs up on some files with the message (twice)
Missing charset in String to FontSet conversion
Files produced by pdflatex are usually the problem. The failure also occurs on 32-bit SuSE. I've had to reload the xpdf from the original CD. The xpdf-config rpm is also installed. Does it also need to be updated? If so, where? Thank you.
