hello. i have installed SUSE 9.1 on my new system: ABIT KV8 pro which uses the VIA K8T800 Pro chip set and VIA VT8237 south bridge chip sets. AMD 64 3200 (newcastle) 1 GB (2x512) Corsair value select RAM ATI Radeon x800 pro 2x maxtor 120GB SATA drives on installation, the system looks fine with the usual YAST installer working correctly and identifying the 2 SATA drives. After installation the configuration seems to go smoothly until reboot. i had configured the system to boot into run level 3, but with X configured by yast to a frame buffer device with 1280x1024 resolution 16 bit display. after reboot the "loading" page looks an evil shade of green with corruption around the lizard. The on board VIA Ethernet times out when the network is attempting to set up. (it counts from 20 down to 0 then continues after displaying an error message). when i get to the login prompt (standard console) i can log in ok. if i then run startx KDE loads ok but the screen colours are all wrong (lot's of blue and cyan etc.) and there is graphical corruption in places. i have a dial up modem so have run the on line update and accepted all the default packages that were selected by YAST. when attempting to set up the sound in KDE i can set the volume and play the test sound but it seems to miss chunks of sound. it doesn't leave gaps though, just seems to skip chunks and finish too quickly. i know there are a lot of things wrong but i would like to have networking and some kind of usable desktop for internet browsing etc. has anyone experienced any of these problems? if so do they have any ideas as to what i can do to solve them? thanks, ad.
