I haven't tried it, but there's no reason why a SMP-kernel shouldn't
handle four cpus as well as two. This is a question about the linux
kernel, not SuSE specifically. And the linux kernel have been able
to handle four cpus without problems for quite some time - I have a
few of those myself.
The problem with multi-cpu boxes isn't the cpus, but may be all the
other funny stuff one tends to put in them to have them work as a
server - RAID-controller, in particular, is something you need to
be careful in chosing.
