nVidia 5900 XT have a good performance/price ratio (~140 pounds
sterling)
New nVidia 6800 will be far more powerful (x2) but at ~350 pounds
sterling are not cheap! and the current linux nVidia driver probably
doesn't support it although nVidia will probably add support for it
at the same time they release a driver supporting 4K stacks in the
kernel (shouldn't be too long).
I have a Sparkle 5900XT in a XP box (never tried it on my linux box)
and an Asus Ti4200 (v9280s I believe) in my linux box and it has been
playing RTCW pretty damn well!
You can probably get a Ti4200 for £50 on eBay.
