As others have said, have it built. I bought a system from Monarch to my
specifications (including the chassis, power supplies, and SCSI). It was
worth it. If you buy from Monarck, then you are going to have to get them
to use the Supermicro 9472? chassis vs the 7472? chassis. Check the
Supermicro web sight. If you build your own, I would auggest the
Supermicro 9x, 4u tower or rackmount chassis with dual SCSI backplane
chassis and tripple power supply (up to ten 1" U320 SCA SCSI disks). This
way you have all the "mechanicals" and can concentrate on the
"electronics".

>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
This server will funtion as a database server will that will store and
select many chunks of small data at very high speeds. The hard drives will
be in a raid 5 configuration with both the OS and the database being on the
array. The OS will not be used too much but it will be on a redundant array
along with the database.
The server needs to have hot swappable drives so I am going to buy the SCSI
chasis with SAF-TE
The Adaptec controller also has support for SAF-TE
The PSU is a redundant one because shutting down/rebooting this machine
will be avoided at all costs. It is a mission critical server.
The OS will be SUSE 64-bit running mysql 64bit binaries.
I would be very gratful if you guys please review over the components and
give me the OK to buy?
I will make sure to get good PC 3200 ECC REGISTERED RAM but if you guys
have any good links, please link me
I plan to use Suse 9 64 bit. The server will run mysql only.
How is the installation for Suse 9 with a Megaraid 320-1?
Thank you!
