Hi all,
We have a Opteron box with 16GB of RAM. When we purchased it, the SLES8 was pre-installed, and the vendor had setup one 2GB swap partition. My questions are:
1. Is the Linux swap partition still limited to 2GB?
It isn't.
2. If so, can I add more swap partitions?
You can either enlarge the existing one or add additional ones.
3. If so, should I have at least as much swap as physical RAM?
Your own choice. There is no requirement in the kernel for this. Normally I would recommend to use less swap unless you're sure you need a lot of virtual memory, because then when a process goes postal and tries to allocate all memory it will be killed early without too much thrashing. -Andi
