Somehow in my attempts to get SuSE 9.0 working on my system, I've managed to mangle the kernel. I now seem to have two kernels partially installed (2.4.21-99 and 2.4.21-192-athlon) and can't get a clean kernel to install. (Trying both the one from the original disks and the one from the 9.0 Patch cd directory). It's gotten to the point where it tries to boot and can't find the right modules. I've also got a problem where the dependancy file is not working properly because I had managed to download some patches and then tried to go back to the original setup. I've tried booting from cd and using the rescue tools and it fails when I try to reinstall grub, or run automatic rescue. When I try to fix the dependancy issues, most of the necessary packages won't install. I can mount the drive using the rescue system and access the files on it, but due to other configuration problems I can't back up my home directory. Is there a way to either force a clean install of the 9.0 Professional cds while keeping my home directory, or to use the cds to do an online install of the most recent setup? Thanks Hilary Hilary L.
