That's what I did, but scan the January and February archives on this list to get a lot of other ideas. You can use the rescue disk, the patch-CD and/or another disk. Kinda frustrating, but nice once it works! Patience, persistence, truth, Dr. mike On Tue, 9 Mar 2004, martink wrote:
Hey Ross,
You've hit on the answer to a degree, install SuSE on the ata100 disk, then build the kernel with sata. You may need to google for the driver if it's not in the kernel so your luck may vary. I did exactly this when i was getting the GigaRAID stuff working on my machine. Shame I had to do programming stuff to make it happen though.
Hope this help,
Martin.

The mother board is manufactured by Micro-Star International and is K8T Neo MIS-6702 version 1.0. the hard drive is a Seagate 120gb at 7200rpm with serial ATA. I believe the SATA is the problem.
Can anyone advise me how to get SUSE installed. I suspect the SATA needs a driver, if so where do I get it, (is there one available)? and how is it installed.?
Any help gratefully accepted

ps: Would another way out of the problem, be to fit another hard drive but with ATA 100 (the mother board will allow this)i nstead of trying to put SUSE on the SATA drive. If I did this will there be any problems with the SUSE installer finding the second drive.?
