There is a patchCD iso image with a kernel that supports SATA on
ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/x86_64/supplementary/9.0-PatchCD
Just use it to boot, after you entered the settings for installation,
you will be asked for the 9.0 DVD.

You will need a new kernel anyways.
