Hi, I successfully compiled the 2.4.24 kernel downloaded from kernel.org on my SuSE 9.0 AMD64 system without applying any patches to it (I'm assuming that's ok since there are no patches for 2.4.24 in ftp.x86-64.org)... However, when I boot, the kernel panics because it can't mount the root fs... It appears as though there's a problem with the reiserfs module not recognizing my rootfs... Here's a hand-copied snippet of the last few lines of output before the kernel panic: VFS: mounted root (ext2 filesystem) reiserfs: found format "3.6" with standard journal reiserfs: checking transaction log (device sd(8,7)) ... for (sd(8,7)) is_tree_node: node level 0 does not match to the expected one 4 sd(8,7):vs-5150: search_by_key: invalid format found in block 606328. Fsck? sd(8,7):vs-13070:reiserfs_read_inode2: i/o failure occurred trying to find stat data of [1 2 0x0 SD] sd(8,7):Using r5 hash to sort names VFS: Cannot open root device "sda7" or 08:07 Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic:VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:07 I got the same thing with kernel 2.4.23, and 2.4.24 on one of my i386 SuSE 9.0 machines as well, though the messages were a little different since it isn't SCSI, but the result was still a Kernel panic because of not being able to mount the root fs... Does anybody have any ideas? Please copy my email address on responses ... Thanks! ---------- Dan Behman DB2 for Linux Platform Development IBM Software Development Lab ----------
