Sweet!!! that fixed all my problems. Before I had tried to load the megaraid2 module within SUSE itself which caused the system to lock up so I thought the module was just bad. It even fixed my irq_balancer problem. Thanks again, Keith Kees Hoekzema wrote:

After install the only way I can boot is in safe mood with "maxproc=0 3" noacpi and noapm don't seem to let me boot, I always get "unable to find root fs".
I had almost the same problem, I mailed it to the list too, have you checked out the answers i received and were send to this list?
When I do get into the system irc_balancer always fales and I'm really not sure what that means. After awhile though when I start doing some intesive tasks (recovering backup) the system locks up and dies, the terminal spits out "general protection fault" but isn't able to write it to the log.
sle8 btw seems to work fine, but I'd much rather use SUSE 9 AMD with this system.
So I'm guessing there is something wrong with the megaraid module (LSI MegaRAID 320-2) or some weird issues with SUSE 9 AMD64bit itself.
That is right, you are using the 'old' module, suse 9 is using that one by default, so just make sure it boots with the 'megaraid2' module instead of the old 'megaraid' module. That worked for me at least ;)
irq_balancer is also failing here, i don't know why and I don't care as long as my system is running stable i don't worry ;-)
Also is there any tools I can use to test the memory on a 64bit system? There is no memory tester on the boot CD for 9, and sle8 cd says there is no image. fun fun fun.
I heard that the memtest from memtest86.com should work, but I wasn't able to run it.
Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
When using the megaraid, always use the new module, if you install suse 9 again make sure you select manual install, go to the modules section, remove the old module, load the new module and stat the install. it should work, it did for me (and i have already 4 servers with that card up and running).
