This should help everybody with an AMD64 system with SATA harddisks to install the 9.0/AMD64 DVD on such a system. [...] - support for Silicon Image (SIL) SATA controllers 3112 and 3114
After unsuccessful efforts of installing my SuSE 9.0 for Athlon64 on my Shuttle SN85G4 with only one SATA disk I decided to take that *nix system that will be first to support my SATA controller (Silicon Image 3512). The *BSD variants seemed to be on a good way but none of them finally recognized the controller. And now I see why I originally decided to buy that SuSE DVD :-)
After downloading the new ISO, burning it and booting from it the installation of the standard system finally succeeded :-D Thank you very much for your efforts in providing this solution.
Sound is working, too, the next thing I have to look for is getting the built-in network card to work ("NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller" according to Windows XP). I probably will have to put a cheap PCI network card into the system until the NVIDIA Controller will be supported. And at last there is no 3D-support for my ASUS Radeon
I've got the same machine, but did not even try to go with SATA... Anyway, NVidia's nforce driver for AMD64 works well with 2.4.x kernels.
9600XT graphics card, yet, but it's not that important to me for now :-)
Keep up the good work!
Thomas.
