[opensuse-ambassadors] Event Report: RedRat Computer Market - Sheffield
Dear All

On Sunday 1st May 2011 I attended the monthly Sheffield Computer Marketing
organised by RedRat Computer Fairs Ltd.

As the only person in the room promoting linux I thought this time I would try
something different to previous months, so I took my 42" Samsung FullHD TV
along for the ride.

Along side the Retail versions of openSUSE from Open-SLX I also took along
some old promo dvd's I had for 11.3.

Main interest was photography, individuals looking to move away from
Commercial Software for photography. Recommended ShowPhoto as a photo
editor and when displayed on screen, the individual was astounded how much
information was available when in the past he has had to pay for Adobe addons
to obtain the same level of detail in an image - lens information etc.

Another query came from an individual whom uses Team Viewer for remote
desktop support, I pointed out that Team Viewer was available to download for
openSUSE and even navigated to the rpm download from the main site.

One young man asked about Flight Simulators - I installed Flight Gear Flight
Simulator (FGFS) however it only displayed a blank screen when i tried to load
it. I promised to try and get it working for next month.

A returning customer whom had previous obtained openSUSE 11.3 from me was
having difficulties mastering dual-boot - he said after installing openSUSE,
Windows XP was unable to power down the computer. Also he wasn't happy with
the delay between openSUSE defaulting, I advised him to contact Open-SLX or
Myself and we would be happy to discuss changing priorities and default
booting options. However he said he was opting for a removable hard disk caddy
and was going to install xp on one hard disk and suse on the other and run
both single boot. He claimed that openSUSE had overwritten bios settings
during installation and this was the cause of XPs problems, I again suggested
he check with support but doubted the likelyhood of this.

A second repeat customer was asking about a specific printer which isn't
supported, I talked about "Windows Printers" and how such devices that do not
have a standard engine tend to be harder to get working.

Overall responce was good, lots of interest, lots of promo dvd's and leaflets
given out.
