[zypp-devel] RFC: config Parameter ShowSearchDetails
Hi, Recently, the search within zypper was changed to no longer show version information and repositories holding a package. Either I just got to used to it or I'm really missing it. I know of the --details switch, which became a standard for me by now and I was wondering if there were any plans for a config switch (/etc/zypp/zypp.conf) like ShowSearchDetails: {true, false} This should change the default behavior of zypper search and add --details in case it's requested. I assume, in this case, we'd also need a --no-details parameter for search, just in case a user that has it on by default wishes to override it for one search. I understand you all are very busy and in case this is a feature you'd think would make sense, I would offer myself to jump into it and provide a patch (I assume this should not be to difficult to implement... tell me if I should be wrong here; my coding knowledge is not that recent anymore). But this is not libzypp-based apps wide option. Sounds more like introducing .zypperrc or similar. Stano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org

Stano, right, I found out about zypp.conf being related to libzypp and not zypper a bit to late... mail was already sent. So either it would be a .zypperrc or /etc/zypper.conf or similiar... What would be preferred? Probably .zypperrc makes more sense, as it's a 'user setting'; dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org

Yes, .zypperc is becoming more and more requested. BTW, there is also a '-s' shorthand for '--details'

Patches are very welcome, but let's not hurry too much (it's too late for 11.0 anyway). Should be discussed a bit before starting with implementation. What format should .zypperrc have (probably INI), what sections, what key naming policy, etc... I actually would make it an requirement that it's the INI format. libzypp already has a parser for it, and reusing code is good. Ciao, Michael. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org

Jan, Thank you for this shortcut, to bad without knowledge of the code, it is not documented :) can you apply the attached patch so that everybody can know of it by using the help system of zypper? Dominique

I know :O) I decided to fix this only in translations due to the text freeze, but on the second thought i could as well do it in the string itself and sync the translations. I'll do so. j. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org
