Is nv11 to old for nouveau? Does nv11 require nouveau blacklist or disabling of KMS to get X started without using fbdev or vesa drivers? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." no clue for me too, in case you want to try the original driver to compare: http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html Perhaps you can also look at: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ re, wh Am 15.07.2011 20:37, schrieb Felix Miata:

By "original driver" are you suggesting that OS 12.1 users with old nv chips should have to rely on non-FOSS software to make X work?
Perhaps you can also look at: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/
Perhaps, while my OP had the misfortune of being sent on a Friday afternoon US time, after quitting time in EU. no, but it helps to check if it works at all. re, wh

I did that via 11.4 boot, but forgot to mention so in OP: # cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE 11.4 (i586) VERSION = 11.4 CODENAME = Celadon # uname -r 2.6.39-30-desktop # xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 1200, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA-1 connected 1600x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 396mm x 297mm 1600x1200 85.0*+ 75.0 70.0 65.0 60.0 1920x1440 75.0 60.0 ... # -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Appending drm.edid_strict=0 to cmdline on boot got me into X, something I figured out 3 months ago but forgot about. Now I notice that Factory remains on X Server 1.9.3, same as in 11.4, while *buntu 11.04 was released in April with 1.10.1, and Fedora 15 was released in May with 1.10.2. :~( -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
