HI everyone
I have this strange problem with KDE 2.0.1. Whenever I change my background and background settings and then log out of KDE and go back in, the settings are back to what it was before???
Why is that? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I ended up replacing the four kdebase*.rpm packages with the identically name packages from: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/2.0.1/distribution/rpm/SuSE/ and the problems disappeared (saves work again). I eventually upgraded to KDE 2.1beta1 from: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/distribution/2.1beta1/rpm/SuSE/ and found it more solid than the 2.0.1 "stable" release. Even though the packages on the ftp site are for SuSE 7.0, they work on 6.4 as well. -- John Ross Hunt bigboote@mediaone.net mailto:bigboote@mediaone.net
Hi Well well. Seems like kdebase*-2.0.1-2 was my problem. I replaced them with a older ver (2.0.1-0) and it worked. Thanks for the advice John! On Monday 08 January 2001 06:38, thou hast written:

What did you do to install 2.1? I downloaded the rpms and begun by installing everyone not named *devel*. These installed fine, but I can't login with kde2 since kdeinit (et al) complains about undefined symbols in libkdecore.so.3 and libkdeui.so.3. I then tried installing the *devel* rpms, too, but they had dependencies to qt-devel, alsadev and kde2support-devel. During my tries to resolve these I run up against the "major version limit (<3) in rpm itself, and I eventuelly gave up and installed the kde2.1 *devel* rpm specifying --nodeps. But this didn't help anyway, I still get the same undefined symbols. ...but unprivileged users can suddenly once again login using kde1, if someone remembers my other troubles last friday... /Lennart John Ross Hunt wrote:

Just one question: do you find it faster? (I can't resignate to kde 1.?) Thanks
