ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/6.4/kernel-2.2.16/ This would be the best place to get the kernel from. Please get the lx_suse.rpm and then you can compile the 2.2.16 kernel. * Irwan Hadi (irwanhadi@iname.com) [000812 01:44]: -->At 06:42 PM 8/11/00 -0700, tk dev wrote: -->>my ques is if i recompile my kernel to 2.2.16, do i -->>have to reinstall all the other programs e.g. perl, -->>etc & reconfigure everything-eg. my apache server, -->>inetd.conf?? --> -->Absolutely NOT ;) --> -->>btw, where do i get kernel 2.2.16? --> -->www.kernel.org --> --> -->-- -->To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com -->For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com -->Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq -- Cheers, Ben Rosenberg Precision LINUX :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: SuSE Inc. That is correct.

No, all you need to do is upgrade your kernel.

You can download the regular kernel source from ftp://ftp.kernel.org or you can get the SuSE rpms from the SuSE ftp site. Victor -- "Let's get it straight: copyright infringement is not piracy. Hi tk an friends all, A nice place also to download and browse Linux Kernel sources is: "Kernel ORG UK Mirror Service" at: http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ They serve HTML, and you can search and browse on- line tar, gz, and bz2 content. Although you can download the hole, or any individual file. Latest Kernel on the development branch (not stable yet) is: "LATEST-IS-2.4.0-test6" as of 09-Aug-2000, as you can see at: http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ They got a very easy and cool interface, test it. RECOMMENDED. Do not use anything other than SuSE's Kernels, if you use the distro. Read about it in SuSE's SDB "SDB: Search results KERNEL" at: http://sdb.suse.de/cgi-bin/sdbsearch_en.cgi?stichwort=kernel&searchtype=and They include a lot of help, and info on their customizations. For detailed Kernel compilation needs you must refer to your SuSE distro book, or download it's PDF file from: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/6.4/docu/ book-en.pdf if you got SuSE 6.4 or search on it's tree. ---- tk dev wrote:

Hi Alex, ---- Alex Risselada wrote:

Why is that, if I may ask.
Do not bother, ask at your will!! =:`) The answer is partly because: 1- You can loose _lvm_ support and integration. 2- Same as above regarding _reiserfs_ 3- Can loose also tight integration and dependencies done by SuSE. 4- No answers replied by SuSE support if you use another Kernel, and this time you must work it for yourself without help. 5- more details, but those above may suffice... Be welcome.
