I _think_ it's called the frame. I have splash=verbose, and I've got some kind of graphics background/frame as the bootup messages scroll. How do I get rid of it? I just want text on black, preferably without having to change vga to normal (I prefer the small text). Thanks! Mike- -- Mornings: Evolution in action. Try splash=native with vga=791 or vga=788, or test with vga=ask. -- "Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 Felix Miata *** http://members.ij.net/mrmazda

Try splash=native
Please note that the only "splash=" parameters recognized by the kernel are "silent" and "verbose". Anything else the kernel tries to interpret as a number for the foreground and background colours. So splash=native is equivalent to "splash=0"

I've found the easiest way is to uninstall every package relating to boot splash - telling yast to ignore dependencies if necessary. You might get a "cannot find splash image" error from the grub stage, but who cares if it banishes that graphical monstrosity to the ashes. Dylan
Thanks!
