Roberto Dohnert
Hey guys I am using SuSE Linux 8.1 professional on one of my PC's I updated KDE to 3.1.2 and QT 3.1.2, the only problem is when i try to install software using YaST it keeps calling for the DVD, and it attempts to reinstall QT and KDE 3.0.5,
How can I get it to quit trying to downgrade ?
Roberto, I have the same problem. I just checked the SuSE archieves to see if someone had figured out how to stop this problem. No joy. Last nite, after fixing my KDE 3.1.2 install, and running SuSEconfig a couple of times, I took my machine as "root" down to runlevel 3 (init 3), did another SuSEconfig, and then did: "rpm --rebuilddb" which as you know is the general form of the rpm rebuild data base command. I haven't used YaST2 since, but may be someone else has some suggestions things to do to prevent YaST@ trying to re-install the 'old" stuff. ~Gar -- In the Beginning was the Command Line ---Neal Stephenson -- __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network. I'm running into the same issue here. I've removed the RPMs for gphoto2 and compiled the sources, now YAST keeps wanting to install the old libgphoto RPM (even tho I don't need it). -- David Orriss Jr. Please email me if you want my ICQ/AIM/IM ID's.

This appears to be an issue related to SuSE 8.1 specifically. In my case, it manifests itself by YaST2 re-installing the version of Mozilla that originally came with the distribution and removing Mozilla 1.3, even though I have upgraded to 1.3 using the official RPM package provided by SuSE. I have as a result of this, as it is so inconvenient, stopped installing packages from the SuSE 8.1 CD and now attempt to source programs elsewhere, which rather defeats the object of YaST2 and the SuSE software management system a little. I have been unable to locate any mention of this issue elsewhere, and have similarly been unable to find a fix for it. -- Anthony Edwards anthony.edwards@uk.easynet.net
