[opensuse] KDE49 and opensuse 11.4
Hi Well done KDE devs for completing 4.9. One question for the opensuse packagers or maybe 2. I've gone to this page http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=KDE_repositories#Upstream_release_aka... to get a repo for 11.4 but its only showing 12.1, 1. Is there going to be a 11.4 version 2. If not, can i use 12.1 with 11.4? regards Ian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi
Well done KDE devs for completing 4.9.
One question for the opensuse packagers or maybe 2. I've gone to this page http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=KDE_repositories#Upstream_release_aka... to get a repo for 11.4 but its only showing 12.1,
1. Is there going to be a 11.4 version
Currently there are no plans to have an 11.4 version. 11.4 is very close to end-of-life. Due to the large number of missing dependencies in 11.4 relative to 12.1 and 12.2, the difficulty and build time needed to do an 11.4 release is large, and it was decided that there was no point using the time and resources on it when the packages will be removed very soon anyway.
2. If not, can i use 12.1 with 11.4?
Almost certainly not, there are a lot of packages that are new or updated in 12.1. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I thought 11.4 was the next "Evergreen" version. I updated my firewall to it just for that reason. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Evergreen will receive security and bugfix updates, but not necessarily support from all OBS repos. Due to the extremely out-of-date nature of the packages, it would create a huge maintenance and resources burden to try to do that for KR49, and would likely negatively impact the stability of the system due to many packages needing to be updated to newer versions. If you look at how things are currently, many OBS repos do not support evergreen at all. I haven't done a real count, but I think evergreen support is the exception rather than the rule for OBS repos. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Exactly! People seem to confuse Evergreen with a rolling distro. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Actually, my comments were in response to the end of life claim. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It's still EOL. Evergreen is something that can come after official EOL, but the official EOL is what most OBS projects seem to use. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
