I like xmms...sox2 will do it, IIRC...you could check the piping in mpg123 to output to a raw PCM file instead of /dev/dsp...what are you trying to do? ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? http://www.mp3-converter.com/linux/index.htm or Convert MP3 into WAV Use the program mpg123, which is part of the SuSE distribution and enter the following: mpg123 -w song.wav song.mp3 (Notice: outputfile comes first, then the inputfile; for whatever reason...) And: the long command mpg123 -b 10000 -s song.mp3 | sox -t raw -r 44100 -s -w -c 2 - song.wav or the short command the fast4est and easiest way to convert mp3 files to wav files is to force mpg123 to output a wav file. this just takes a couple of seconds: mpg123 -w file.wav file.mp3 (using mpg123 Version 0.59q) or Dump tracks on an audio CD to wav files on your hard drive: cdda2wav -D 0,4,0 -B /tmp/prefix-of-music-file The files will be written out as /tmp/prefix-of-music-file_01.inf /tmp/prefix-of-music-file_01.wav /tmp/prefix-of-music-file_02.inf ... as described on some web-pages, does "work", but the output file in *.wav format does have an undefined end! JLK
Thanks,
Fred

Convert MP3 into WAV
Use the program mpg123, which is part of the SuSE distribution and enter the following:
mpg123 -w song.wav song.mp3
(Notice: outputfile comes first, then the inputfile; for whatever reason...) And: the long command mpg123 -b 10000 -s song.mp3 | sox -t raw -r 44100 -s -w -c 2 - song.wav or the short command the fast4est and easiest way to convert mp3 files to wav files is to force mpg123 to output a wav file. this just takes a couple of seconds:
mpg123 -w file.wav file.mp3
(using mpg123 Version 0.59q)
Now, I am getting angry on mpg123(using 0.59r) and trying for instance mpg123 -w f.wav f.mp3 Now the problems: 1. I get the file converted, it says like done and so. But SECONDS LATER, that f.wav is a ZERO-LENGTH FILE. My assumption is now that I run mp3blaster in background to hear music, this influences mpg123 also. But why the heck=?!!? How can I hear music WITH MP3BLASTER and at the same time convert using (A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TOOL) MPG123 ? 2. How can I convert an entire directory (meaning its files) to wav in one commmand? The man pages I have here (Version 0.59 R) SUCK majorly!!! Not even the -w option is documented. For instance: mpg123 -w *.wav *.mp3 reads all the mp3s in the current dir, but writes to ONE .wav file (all data into ONE). so far i have not found the solution. so tnx and salutes ahead! I am really getting mad at that one. :-) rant mode off for today...

Tell xmms to use the disk writer plugin. That way it is nice to make a long playlist, and have it munch through it over night (depending on how many mp3øs in question of course). -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A.
