Hi: I have a 7.3 and a 8.1 box on my LAN. The 8.1 box has an HP LJ1200 printer, and I want to print to it from the 7.3 box. I have the printer set up with CUPS, and it works. I also have 7.3 on the 8.1 box, it is dual bootable right now, 7.3 is what I've been using. The 7.3 is set up with a print queue "lp3" which the other 7.3 box prints to, using the forwarding queue setup on the 7.3 box. Now, when I am running 8.1, and I try to print from the 7.3 client, I can see a print job show up on the 8.1 machine, using lpc, but then it says it was removed, and nothing ever prints. I have set the root and printer permissions in the CUPS server configuration stuff in Yast to have the IP address of the 7.3 client, but no action. Can this be done? Any tips? Or need I go back to LPRng on this 8.1 box to make it happen? I will likely run 8.1 on the other machine in the future, just no time to set it up right now. This machine has priority. Thanks. -- _____________________ Christopher R. Carlen crobc@earthlink.net Suse 7.3 Linux 2.4.10

Hi Chris, I don't have 8.1 as yet but suggest you have a look at the messages in /var/log/cups These should tell you what is going wrong. I suggest you look at the /etc/cupsd.conf as this controls access to the printers from other workstations. Also it may be useful increasing the debug level in /etc/cupsd.conf to sort out the problem. Be aware if you set the debug level to the highest level you will probably be swamped with messages. Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
