Remove the slash after file.icc aqnd if the . is part of your cp command, remove that to. If the source directory have spaces in it, you need to escape them. In other words; cp -t /home/my\ directory/file.icc directory/file.icc /usr/share/color/icc/Adobe_ICC_Profiles/RGB_Profiles/

I'm still getting the same thing. Here's something interesting. When I hover over the file and the file info pops up it says file type: unknown. Could this be a problem? If so, then how do I fix it? I have written the file name as it was downloaded in caps where there are caps and I have written it in lowercase letters and still the message tells me the file does not exist. This just plain bumfuzzles me. When I did it the last way you show I used the quotation marks as you showed. Still, file does not exist. There are no spaces in the directory names. the .icc file is in the profiles directory in my home directory. I can navigate to that directory, but for some reason the file is not found. I see it in Konqueror. I have a tar file in the downloads directory. When I hover over it, the file info pops up and says the type of file is a tar file. So much for the windows thing, but I'm not argueing with you, I'm just trying to understand this new operating system and I'm bound to ask some pretty ignorant questions as I make the transition from Windows to Linux. Same as what you have. My first file is your bclib and the sRGB file is your bctests. Today when I reinstalled opensuse I used the DVD and installed the Adobe ICC Profiles (Big Mistake). I thought it would be easy to copy the .icc file that I had to the RGB Profile folder. Little did I realize that it would be as difficult as it has been. I very much appreciate the assistance and the time you all have put into this problem. From the stand point of the initial install the problem is really not solved. The way I solved it was to delete the profiles I installed from the DVD. I went to the Adobe web site and downloaded the tar file, extracted it and installed it using YaST2. After that I did a right click and copied the file in the RGB Profiles folder. I still don't understand why the file would be there and then not there. Maybe I'll never know. Maybe I'll get back to it another time on another computer, but for now I have use of a needed color profile and that was my original intent. Thanks for the encouragement. I had written a friend who had done some computer work for me about an issue I was having and he told me to get ready for some more hair pulling. Ok, it caught my eye as being a possible password. And you are right about security, you are definitely entering the better world! Unless you log in and out frequently, nothing wrong with a long login name. The users and groups are actually tracked in the kernel by a number assigned at the time the user/group is created. You (as root) can edit the password file manually (with "vipw", a derivative of the editor "vi") and change the login name, full name, etc. Or you could create a new user, and copy files over from your existing home folder, but then you have to "chown" and "chmod" several things. I'd suggest you get to know "man", and take your time understanding file permissions and such. (If you are already beyond that, excuse me...) Try "man vipw", "man vi", and even "man man" for starters...but don't do anything until you understand the foundation. Most of all, don't get frustrated. There are no spaces in the directory names. the .icc file is in the profiles directory in my home directory. I can navigate to that directory, but for some reason the file is not found. I see it in Konqueror. I have a tar file in the downloads directory. When I hover over it, the file info pops up and says the type of file is a tar file. So much for the windows thing, but I'm not argueing with you, I'm just trying to understand this new operating system and I'm bound to ask some pretty ignorant questions as I make the transition from Windows to Linux. Please bear with me. The learning curve is very steep and I'm trying to play catch up.
I just did the ls -al profiles thing and it found two files in the directory. One of them being the .icc file. Help me understand why when I try to copy it to the RGB Profiles directory it can't be found?
Exact error message might help. It will complain if there is no source file that you want to copy or there is no destination file or directory.
Would maybe moving it help, or am I just whistling Dixie?

Known or unknown to KDE or GNOME, doesn't mean anything for copy operation, even in graphic mode, and nothing at all in the shell (text mode, command line). What is important are: - spaces in the file or directory name will break the name in 2 parts "my directory" for the shell are 2 files "my" and "directory", so put that in quotes will keep them as one file name, or using my\ directory will tell shell that space is part of the name. - slash / that marks directory, and it should not follow normal file - file names are case sensitive, so Dwain is not the same as dwain, DWAIN, dWAIN (with Caps Lock active), DwAiN etc. - any character that doesn't belong like dot mentioned in other post. If you want to use command line cp -t /usr/share/color/icc/Adobe_ICC_Profiles/RGB_Profiles/<single-space> /home/my\ directory/file\ directory/file.icc Note that line is broken in mail message and it should be single line with one space instead of <single-space>. Thanks Jon, I'll have to remember the <Tab> thing. This is all so new to me, and I don't know a lot of tricks yet on how to make the system work for me instead of the other way around. I guess it's the blockhead in me that wants it to be just so. This Linux thing is a new adventure for me, and as many times as I have installed the OS over the past week, I'm getting pretty good at it. NP. We were all 'there' at some point or another... When I first found out about <TAB>-completion, I was... very impressed... It literally made me go "wow!" Now I use it so much, that I sometimes accidentally get 'access denied' with ssh, because my fingers automatically just type the first couple of characters in the password, and then hit <TAB> <ENTER>... It's a bit like typing <ESC> :wq <ENTER> to get out of any editor... The fingers just do it, and leaves me with a puzzled look on my face as I try to figure out why it didn't work... :P
