[opensuse] protecting online images
Hello :-) I try to protect some online images. I have some ideas I would like to know if they have any chance of being usefull. most simply, I have a photo collection that lay online. public photos are on open folders, private one are hidden behind <directory> apache passwd restrictions. This seems to work. http://dodin.org/wiki/index.php?n=Photo.GaleriesPhoto However, I would like to have some more functions (for example slideshows) using a gallery software. right now I try to use piwigo. The software allows using permissions on images so only the needed ones are public. However most photo in the collections have trivial names (mostly the name given by the photocamera), so it's pretty simple to mind most names from knowing one. For example if I have one public image in the repository, all private names can be gessed and private image viewed. If I add apache restriction, the gallery software dont work. I try to fix this. I don't know any way to allow downloading of public images without giving publicly they URL :-( so I wonder if I could add somewere in the image name a random part making the name guess much more dificult. for example, I could change the name img_2015.jpg to img_2015_489745.jpg, 489745 being random. Do you think this will be enough? is there any better way to have the same result? do you have ideas? I need to keep part of the original name to be able to relate the image to the initial original one thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can't. For a site visitor to see them the browser has to first fetch them. Once fetched, there's no way to prevent saving locally. You can make it more difficult for the clueless to do, but anyone with more than nominal browsing experience will probably know or find a way around your attempts. -- " We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion." I use gallery2. It uses mysql (and other dbs) and provides hidden directories, password protected directories, multiple views, slideshows, etc. And the price is right. http://gallery.menalto.com/ very easy to use. I have their package installed, but there is also an rpm package: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/etrash:/webapps/openSUSE_11.... my site: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

After downloading and examining piwigo, I strongly suggest you take a long look at gallery2 and/or JAlbum. JAlbum is the easiest thing you can imagine, but gallery2 is infinitely more configurable and better for *large* galleries. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
