Hello, I need to DiskCopy my SuSE 6.2 Bootdisk. Got a command for this? I'm looking at 'dd' but the "Linux in a nutshell" does not give an example nor does the man. SuSE manual seems silent on DiskCopy. And what format does the new diskette need. minix or ext2fs? man dd ;) <with bootdisk inserted> # dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/tmp/bootdisk.img <swap floppies> # dd if=/tmp/bootdisk.img of=/dev/fd0 (--or--) <with CD1 inserted and mounted and a floppy inserted> # dd if=/cdrom/disks/bootdisk of=/dev/fd0 The /disks directory on CD1 has a lot of usefull stuff in there...check the SuSE manual for more. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

For those of you who don't know what it does, it will take from 0 to 2 parameters, you can either run diskcopy which, will default to fd0 or you can select your drives on the command line by entering the drives numerical value, (0 for fd0, 1 for fd1, etc..) ie: diskcopy (copies fd0 to fd0) diskcopy 0 (copies fd0 to fd0) diskcopy 0 2 (copies fd0 to fd2) diskcopy 2 0 (copies fd2 to fd0) etc.. Or, if your really board, you could do something like the following within your .alias file:

Hello, I looked up 'dd' and 'cp' and 'diskcopy' in the back of the manual and found nothing useful. I had to look under bootdisk. My mistake. No no no. :) I mean type (like, with the keyboard), `man dd' ;) For your pennance, you shall repeat `/usr/doc is my friend' five times. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x121 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Give him credit, he DID try to RTFM. He just needed to RTFMP instead. :-) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

'dd if=/dev/fd0 of=temp, and then 'dd if=temp of=/dev/fd0'. You can tweak things like the block size but I've never had difficulty copying floppies using the defaults. Also, if you use dd to copy a disk it doesn't matter what filesystem it is because it makes an exact copy.
