[opensuse] where to look (in browser) for domains on my web server?
hi! I just created VirtualHosts for 2 domains on my dedicated server using Yast. I put them in /srv/www/ directory /srv/www/domain1.com /srv/www/domain2.com but, now I have no idea where to look for them (in browser)? when type in localhost or IP address (domain names are still pointed to old server until new one is up and running) the server is showing "default" site. thanks for any help. -afan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

To do it like that is impossible. Virtual hosts cannot use IP addresses (since you determine which virtual host to show from the host name) and I guess you set up your virtual hosts to use some hostname other than localhost You need to be able to use the virtual host names and have them resolve to your IP. As a temporary solution for your internal tests, I suggest putting your host names in /etc/hosts on the machine where your web browser is. Your web browser will pick them up from there -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
If you are using Named Based Virtual Hosting (which I would guess from your email that you are), then the server has to see the domain you are requesting as part of the request (when you type www.somedomain.com, www.somedomain.com is actually sent to the web server). So, you have to get your actual request to the server. You can do this in two ways: 1) Set up a temporary DNS server an point it to the new site, then set your machine to use that server. 2) Add an entry to the hosts file with each of your sites and the IP of the new server.
