I can attest to the Apgen software, as I have seen it and know a couple of dealers... but it's very expensive -- not only to buy, but to learn... There was a motion for GNUCash (http://www.gnucash.org) which I have used in the past once, but didn't understand it much so I gave up... On my recent upgrade to 8.2 however, I took a much more serious look at it and it's been improved for looks, functionality, and ease of use. The program is quite powerful (perhaps even more powerful than Inuit Quicken -- my father believes on a quick glance) and it's by design a "Double-Entry" bookkeeping method, something only accounts really seem to understand right off. I believe if you'll take a look at the website and the help docs/tutorial docs you'll probably choose it. They seem well written from what I've gone through so far.
