Hi, All - The setting up of a LAN (on eth1) so that my partner can access our ADSL connection (on eth0) has become rather more troublesome than one might wish. The latest error was a problem with /etc/resolv.conf, which we've managed to get sorted out. Ergo, I am online. However, we're still hoping to get the other machine connected. A most intriguing problem involves the utter absence of rpc.mountd and rpc.nfsd, both of which (i am given to understand) are supposed to be in /usr/sbin. They ain't...anyone got a clue as to why they are absent, and what i might do to remedy that? I *did* manage to assign an IP# that differs from the IP on eth0; i have read the documentation, and have the entire LDP in hardcopy. It's old, but it's in my possession, and i've read it. I know i need to edit /etc/hosts, /etc/route.conf, and if i want to access her machine, probably resolv.conf? If someone would be so kind as to give me a step-by-step of each action i should take, and the probable result of that action, i could then possibly get this horrible running joke behind me, or if not, at least determine the possibility, however remote, that it is a hardware problem, and not my utter stupidity. I am running 2 cards of type D-Link DFE-530TX, which the kernel is set up to support. This is why you can read this e-mail. 8) The goal is to allow islandwolf (my partner's machine) to mount nsf shares from timberwolf (my machine), more specifically her account on this machine, and all applications accessible thereby. Thanks in advance. Sorry if the problem is becoming monotonous... ~/it/ug > rpm -qf /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd nkita-99.6.25-8 ~/it/ug > rpm -qf /usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd nkita-99.6.25-8 This is on SuSE 6.2...

I would, but I have no experience with LANs. David -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
