Multiple ISDN providers-HOWTO ??
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I am having trouble in finding a way to simply configure multiple providers ( ISPs ) for ISDN internet access. I have a USR Sportster internal which has been working ok for years. But my troubles are these : The 'standard' kinternet : It has only ( in 7.0 ) the ( in my opinion ) silly, slow and very little flexibility of YaST2 config options, I have never found ( in 6 months ) how to add a new provider, if I try to add a new one what it does is assume it as the new default provider. Also there doesn't seem to be away to choose them providers, RMB on the kinternet icon only shows one provider called ISDN ( which BTW doesn't exist ) I then tried kwvdial, but it doesnt find my idsn card, tries to detect a modem and fails. Works ok with modem. Then I went back to kisd ( commercial ) which I had found very useful back with redhat 5.2. But now it made very weird things, configuring my actual card as an 'external' ippp0 with default ISP. When I try to connect with another account, it tries to use interface ippp1 which doesnt exist. I havent found neither where it gets the idea of using ippp1, but problem is the same. I can't find an easy way to configure multiple ISPs. Please HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP !!!!!!!! I am completely stuck in this one, and have been so for some 4 or 5 months ... - -- - From the forgotten corner in Europe, Land of Breogan Powered by GNU/Linux SuSE 7.0 - Linux user #97.266 ...may the force be with you -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.1e-SuSE (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE6yiP/43VmOmspzC4RAqUkAKCeSY0y6uGb64vHXxAYKYuaisRuEgCfZZBT NY2Cd9QIKGx/XQxJVgyI7WQ= =PEjl -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Hi, I suggest you upgrade Kinternet. The one with 7.1 handles multiple ISPs. Have a look at the ftp site. I can't get access to it at the moment but I think the rpm is in the KDE-2.1.1 directory somewhere. Don't know about backwards compatability with 7.0 but if it doesn't work just revert. Nothing Ventured........ Stu

Yep, there it is, but tough luck, since it depends on the new libc... So that leaves me just where I was... Hello again, I hate to say it but......... you just might have to consider upgrading to 7.1. If this problem has got to you so much (and I know about ISP reliability) I suggest that you go for it. Back up everything - re-install and lie back and enjoy ;) SuSE 7.1 is actually rather special. Regards Stu (Who had exactly the same problem but learned to live with it)

Alternatively, you could download the source for kinternet and compile it your self, then you won't run into library issues like you would with RPM.

Hi again... I cant get kinternet to work correctly, now it is upgraded, it seems to let you use multiple providers but what it does when configuring with yast2 is add new interfaces ( ippp0, ippp1, ippp2.... ) for each new provider I configure. IMHO either this is incorrect or it is not handled correctly later... When I try to call to lets say provider nº2 ( ippp1 ) or prov nº 3 ( ippp2 ) it fails ( since there is no ippp2 i guess ) but instead it calls to provider 1 and the i have to kill connection with isdnctrl since kinternet goes crazy ( using ippp0 for connections while 'thinking' it's managing ippp2 ??? ) So HOW did YOU get it to work ? Please ?? I have been downloading megs and megs and ranting and raving in the upgrade just for this ????? I cant believe it... --

Indeed ippp0, ippp1, ippp2, etc. One for each provider. I used yast1 to configure the privider and I didn't have to do anything else. It worked from the start... Oh no, not really, check the owner/group of /dev/isdn* and /dev/ippp*. IIRC, yast1 grants privileges (for ISDN access) to root.uucp while the actual owner.group needed to be something else. But again, IIRC.
