Why is it that when I change a network setting in a SuSE 6.3 box with 2 NICs, that nothing (network) ever works again? I am trying to find out if my 3c905b or my Linksys 10/100 is eth0.... This seems a little screwed up. Anyone got any pointers? I have checked and re-checked my network settings. When I change them, I can no longer even ping a host on my local network. Any help would be appreciated.... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hi, You can do the followings: 1. Check the files /etc/conf.modules. It should have entries like below alias eth0 3c59x <-- Your 3com NIC alias eth1 tulip <-- Your linksys NIC 2. Do 'lsmod' to check if the 2 drivers are loaded. If not, use modprobe to load the drivers. 3. Do a 'dmesg | grep eth' to check NICs being initialise when bootup. 4. Reboot to check if all settings stay. Hope this help. Cheers, Wayne KULISHdotCOM wrote:

Make sure that you do not enter a default gateway for the second nic. I did that accidentally one time, and could not figure out why my network stopped working. Victor On Thu, 13 Apr 2000, KULISHdotCOM wrote:
