I was reading over the Installation guide to the Highpoint HPT370 Raid Controller and it says (Note: I am reading "Installing HPT370 Driver on an Existing System") Under Step 1 Obtain the driver module "Suse 7.1 Linux may use version 2.2.18 kernel or version 2.4.0 kernel" --- So does this have to be run on Suse 7.1 or can I run it on Suse 7.2 running the 2.4.0 kernel? If I can run it on Suse 7.2 kernel 2.4.0 where can I get the 2.4.0 kernel? Does Suse 7.2 have any problems with the 2.4.0 kernel? Another question is, Ok, I have 2 hard drives / (80gig) and a /home (80gig). / is and /home is . Both have 8 gig filled. When I create this will if format anything? Anyone got any info for me? I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly 2.4.0 had some issues with memory leaks. Understand that the guys at HighPoint don't seem to be very congent as far as Linux is concerned. I have the hpt370 and if not for the work of Andre Hedrick (the linux ide guy) I, or anyone else, would probably not be able to use the hpt370 generically for basic HD drive functions. I and many others have clamoured at HP Tech for a couple of years now to develop some comprehensive drivers. Frankly, I'm surprised that they've released this patch. Wish I could tell you more.
