Re: [SLE] 9.1 Upgrade -- KDE Giving Me Fits! MORE

Further observations:
A. WindowMaker does not work either -- just recycles me back to the login.
B. The other user that I created after the upgrade from 9 to 9.1 works fine.
The problem are the files and sockets in /tmp/ -- clean out /tmp/ (or change the ownwership) and all should work.

Wipe everything, edoc, root, and the other user or only edoc? If I try the change method will chown -R edoc:users /tmp/* get it done? Thanks! doc

So, create a new user and all works fine. In YAST, delete your account WITHOUT deleting your home directory, because you need your data such as bookmarks... Then rename your home directory to something new. Create a new user edoc. Login and be happy :-) For your old data, you should find the most in your old, renamed home under .kde/share/apps. You have to cojungle a lot, but you see an end.

As KDE don't need the temporary files in /tmp, clean everything in /tmp or if you are unsure, rename it (so you can reuse it later if you want to).
Thanks! doc
Hope to help you! Al
The problem with the confused old account in the newly updated from Suse 9 to 9.1 notebook has been solved! 1. Renamed the $HOME /home/abc files and folders 2. Deleted the old account in YaST 3. Recreated the old account in YaST 4. Copied the Incoming Mail Folders, Address Book, Bookmark, and Message Filter files and folders back in. 5. Where necessary used chown -R aaa:bbb /home/aaa/xyz to get the ownership right. A time consuming but educational process. Thanks to all for their very helpful and patient assistance! doc
