Hi all, I have 3.5Gib Ram, 2.5Gib Swap and 3 instance of Oracle running on this machine. I use SuSE 7.0. Anytime I check for swap space it is not 1M utilized. Do you think I need to set any kernel parameters ? Any ideas ? Regards, Madhu
No. Linux will use Swap when it needs it. Don't force it to use something that's much slower then RAM. If you have 3.5G of ram and the processes that are on the machine are not running out of memory. Just sit back and let the machine do it's job. Linux unlike Windows tries to use RAM before it resorts to swap. * MADHU GUPTA (madhu_tms@rediffmail.com) [020312 10:56]: ->Hi all, -> -> I have 3.5Gib Ram, 2.5Gib Swap and 3 instance of Oracle running ->on this machine. I believe this to be true. For example, it is recommended if your Windows box has more than 512MiB of RAM that you enable "Conservative Swap File Usage." If is available as an option in memory management programs like Cacheman, which I wholeheartedly recommend [http://www.outertech.com]. -- Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 3A1446A0

Swap wil only be used if you run out of RAM. I'll bet you've gor plenty of RAM, true? -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
