Hi everyone.
The SuSE 7.0 upgrade from 6.4 went well apart from the immediate disconnection on trying to connect via kppp. Wvdial works fine however from root and I can browse and get e-mail as an normal user..
Can anyone help? kppp reports that 'kppp deamon died unexpectedly' or 'Timeout expired while waiting for the PPP interface to come up!' Random messages.
Everything was working great under 6.4. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks, steve.

In SuSE 7.0 I haven't been able to use kppp which I was used to, this new kinternet is just a damn mess it seems, unable to use that. So there's just old faithful wvdial left, and I concider that a good chouce, it only gets better. Once you get the hang of configuring it it's a beauty, fast and effective.....:-)
Hm, kinternet doesn't do anything other than calling wvdial ... chmod u+s /opt/kde/bin/kppp should fix the problems with kppp. But be aware that this is a security risk. Hi Thorsten, Hi everyone. Thanks for the response. It was the permissions messing things up. Steve. On Sun, 01 Oct 2000, you wrote:

Hi Helgi, I agree - wvdial IS an old faithful AND a good choice - since upgrading to 7.0 (using, admittedly, the free give-away which came with last ed. of 'Linux Format'), although I can use kppp, I get a flash-screen which comes up which tells me my kernel does not have ppp support - which is rubbish. With wvdial I get no such annoyances.
