Interesting problem when building a kernel on my Athlon XP (i586, it tells me): make mrproper make oldconfig (make sure EXT3 is built in, or just leave SuSE defaults) make install (I use grub instead of lilo, so it barks at that step) Following arises: 1. Kernel build dies with floating point exception, but continues to build upon restart of make install -or- 2. traps.c fails to compile because CONFIG_KDB #define is not set...but I set CONFIG_KDB=y (by default) in the .config Either way, when I finally get things to build and install, the following can happen: a. it never comes up... b. it comes up and barks about not supporting EXT3, usb, or any network card... Now, if I use the defaults (or make any changes) I get the same behavior...considering that my system is installed with EXT3 filesystem from the DVD, and no hardware changes have been made...what am I doing wrong? I'm cruising the documentation and kernelnewbies.org and used to build SunOS/Solaris kernels for fun... Any help/insights would be greatly appreciated. SuSE is moaning that this isn't an install issue so send $$. Thanks in advance __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Does oldconfig do a make modules?
make install (I use grub instead of lilo, so it barks at that step)
It still works, although like you said it pukes at lilo...
Following arises:

It isn't an install issue :). Never could get ABI going, but figured I didn't need it. Matt
Thanks in advance
