Getting specific package versions
I'm trying to locate build 166 of the k_athlon rpm package, because it's what I need to work with Win4Lin. The normal ftp sites give me build 144, because that's what came with SuSE 9.0. The update site (Yast Online Update) gives me build 192, which also doesn't work with Win4Lin. The update window shows that build 166 exists but doesn't give a way of selecting it, and I don't know where I can locate a copy. The specifics of the package I'm looking for aren't the point of this query; it could be any package whatsoever. The general question is how you locate a particular build of a package that has been released in the past but is now neither the newest nor the oldest. Paul Abrahams

Build 192 is so recent that NeTraverse won't have had time to build a win4lin version. I would expect a compatible kernel within a few days on their site http://www.netraverse.com/ That is probably the simplest solution to your problem, though it may mean a few days without win4lin. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.

Actually I reverted k_athlon to level 144 and got Win4Lin working again that way. I don't know how bad the security holes in 144 (or for that matter 166) are, though. I guess that people had been living with them for a while. Paul Abrahams

I think you might be able to, if instead using "you", you directly ftp to the server. Otherwise, look at the equivalent directory (mine is 8.2) to "/var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/9.0/rpm/i586/k_athlon*" where you will see all patches for your kernel that were previously downloaded; in my case, I see: /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/k_deflt-2.4.20-100.i586.patch.rpm /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/k_deflt-2.4.20-101.i586.rpm /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/k_deflt-2.4.20-102.i586.rpm /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/k_deflt-2.4.20-96.i586.patch.rpm Those named *patch.rpm have to be applied to the previous kernel. Those without that name, can be installed directly. If there were three patches previous to the version you want, you have to apply the three in the correct order. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
