OK, I have been using SUSE for a couple of versions now and my wireless cards all worked in SUSE 8.2. Orinoco Cisco 350 Xircom In SUSE 9.0 they all detect but for some reason I can not turn them on. I am not sure what is going on but I think that there is a bug in the yast config somewhere in the new version. When I attempt to turn on the cards the system cannot find it. I have tried wlan-pcmcia, eth0, eth1, wlan0, and etc. I know that some of the names I tried may have been invalid but I am getting despirate. Also, I tried installing 8.2 and installing the wirless card and it worked. Then I tried upgrading to 9.0 and it still worked, so I am assuming there is something wrong with the configuration of new wireless cards. I did cardctl ident and everything else. The card is there and it does detect correctly but it just doesn't work. Help!!! -- Benjamin Arai Araisoft Corp. benjamin@araisoft.com Phone: (626) 390-8973

I'm having similar trouble. I upgraded my trusty Toshiba and all I had to do was remove and recreate my network card setup in Yast. The card, a Lucent WaveLAN Silver, now comes up as wlan0 and encryption works perfectly. I also upgraded a Compaq 2170 laptop, which has a Lucent WaveLAN Silver as well. No matter what I do, it comes up as eth0 and the encryption doesn't get set. I been looking all throughout /etc to see what the difference is and I haven't found anything yet. I'm pretty stumped at this point. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/qpuH+FOexA3koIgRArA7AJ0Qh+aVUJF2Lg6QrsOSlf4xRuI65gCfa/iU bjnVt9PE0GXb9DIyciQoFpE= =WJ9n -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Not sure if this is any help, but I remember seeing something in another list about a bug in the wireless for 9.0, and there being an update available to fix the problem. I think it was the amd64 list, but can't remember any more. Try checking for a 9.0 update. I believe it added something to /etc/sysconfig/wireless. Sorry to be so vague, but I don't have wireless nor 9.0. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. Yeah, that update was applied, but didn't fix the problem. We tracked the problem down to the kernel. Installing the latest 8.2 kernel, 2.4.20-100, got it working perfectly. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/q+w3+FOexA3koIgRAjp1AKCzNCBJbB9U1GaQLD8ueA19VUFKNACfXwfO MZrgFErUosY5dUVrfnPfSiU= =Mmqq -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
I have verified this and you are right. I tried the 8.2 kernel and compiling a vanilla kernel from kernel.org. Thanks for the help. On Fri, 2003-11-07 at 11:02, James Oakley wrote:
