Hello everyone. I just installed this card and everything seems to be working fine; I installed the driver and the kernel patch. I have the following minor problem: when I restart X or logoff to login as a different user, screen turns black for 6~7 seconds and then it shows the NVidia Splash page and then my KDM login page. Previously, it was almost immediate. Does anyone know why I get that black screen for 6~7 seconds, and how I can get around that? I am running SuSE 8.0 with KDE 3.0. Many thanks, Ali.
If you peruse the SuSE info and support page, you will find that there are many problems with NVidia and linux. If you are not using 3D acceleration much, you can disable it in SAX2 and that will most likely get rid of your problem. Also, you need to download the new drivers/kernel from the nvidia website for your video card and run rpm in single-user mode. I had to do the same thing a while ago and now it is stable.
