Someone asked me about where to get TurboLinux, it's CD is free with Sys Admin - January 2000 Issue. I also note that there is a SuSE Poster with this issue, you would have thought SuSE would have had their Disk in the pack rather than an oppositions! regards scsijon -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Someone asked me about where to get TurboLinux, it's CD is free with Sys Admin - January 2000 Issue.
No, the CD isn't free. It's a trial version that is bundled in such a way with their clustering software that you are unable to copy and redistribute it. They have essentially turned Free software into NON-free software. Turbolinux is famous for stunts such as this. They distribute Linux only to make money and don't care about the Free/Open Source movement. Turbolinux actually tried to trademark the name "Linux" for themselves in Japan. They finally backed off when several Linux User Groups threatened to stage boycotts of their products. If your friend is fixed on using this distro it can easily be obtained from Turbolinux directly or from: www.linuxmall.com www.linuxcentral.com
I also note that there is a SuSE Poster with this issue, you would have thought SuSE would have had their Disk in the pack rather than an oppositions!
regards scsijon
Since SuSE doesn't own or operate the publication I doubt they have much control of what is sent with it. Besides, have you considered that perhaps SuSE doesn't need to send out copies of it's distro because we already know it's a superior release and a value for the money!?! ;) Mario -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I burned some copies, and the clustering is still there. My CD had a chip out of one corner, so I figured I better make one before it falls apart. I did a diff, and all is well. Are you sure you are not mistaken. I have been associated with Turbo For 3 years and do not know why some of their methodology is worse than SuSE's. Take OSS for instance. Cram that down our throats instead of making a nice sndconfig like redhat has done. OSS is proprietary, no? Sound works without oss. Clustering does not work without Turbo's hack. My2cts. Are you mad because Bodo is running things at TurboLinux?

Didn't a commercial company end up with it? What is the diff?

ZD Publication shipped last september all over South America, Central America and Mexico their computer magazine with SuSE 5.2 or .1. I am sitting here looking at my copy. There goes that argument. This is very stupid. a) last time I checked, sndconfig could only handle soundblaster. b) what do we have to do with OSS? oh, we distributed it, so we are bad? c) have you ever heard about ALSA (and who employs the projects founder)?! -- Currently at Oracle, Redwood City, California Oracle-EMail: mhasenst@us.oracle.com Michael Hasenstein http://www.suse.de/~mha/ Private Pilot (ASEL+aerobatics) since 1998 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

look again.
b) what do we have to do with OSS? oh, we distributed it, so we are bad?
It is set to default to oss. look in modules.conf
c) have you ever heard about ALSA (and who employs the projects founder)?!
Dunno or care about alsa. Sound should work from modules.

That's IMNSHO a mistake :) ALSA is the new sound architecture, that in the
not too distant future will replace OSS. It's API is a vast improvement and
it supports quite a few cards, including professional ones like the
Hammerfall. I'd say, have look (it's on your CDs :).

What does it do that kernel modules dont do on most cards? Philipp Thomas wrote:

I think he is saying that, if you honor the copyright license, you can not burn a copy and distribute it. Thank you Russell
