I guess we all knew it was coming. We just have to wait and see if this is the beginning of the end or the beginning of a great new future for the software. Now if they'd just switch to kde/Qt... http://www.vistasource.com/about/letter
Let's hope for better. I would hate Applixware to vanish. It's small, cute and doing its job. -Kastus On Fri, Mar 16, 2001 at 05:43:49PM +0800, Jethro Cramp wrote:

I read on the list that a demo of Applix Office comes with SuSE 7.1. Presumably this is a time limited version. Does anybody know if this can be activated by paying and then getting an activation code? (I haven't received 7.1 yet and am wondering about whether to order Applix Office) Regards, Jethro

Yes a time limited version of Applix is available on SuSE 7.1 Professional. I do not know if it is on the Personal edition. Here is what it says when it starts up: __________________________________________________ Thank You for using the Applixware Office Suite. Hopefully, your experience with this software has been positive. In the event there were any issues with the product or there are improvements you would like to see, please report them to www.smartbeak.com/applixware/eval This is a time restricted product. This product will expire in 23 days. To purchase a full license of Applixware Office for Linux please visit your local reseller or our web site at linux.applixware.com ___________________________________________________ I have a shrink wrap Applix office suite (5.0) but not all of it's features worked in SuSE 7.0. Since Installing 7.1, I have not bothered to reinstall. I think Applix is nice software and I have nothing but high praise for their support at Smart Beak. Michele Webster is in charge of support and is very good. Unfortunately it appears that Applix requires the Installation of obsolete GTK libraries, which may cause other GNU and Gnome apps to fail. At least that is what I remember from the last time I installed Applix. During the installation you can choose to install the supplied GTK libs or decline it. I declined to install them and used the existing ones on my SuSE box. I found that clicking on some of the menus caused Applix to crash. The demo supplied by SuSE works quite well and their were no problems running it. Perhaps you can order it through SuSE. In that way successful installation would be assured.
(I haven't received 7.1 yet and am wondering about whether to order Applix Office)
