RE: [SLE] Any recommendation for a 64 bit Athlon motherboard
Not trying to sound mean, but what type of server?
I have a gigabyte MB that is running my home server just fine (Samba, NFS). But for a production webserver, I'd be looking for one with ecc memory. Different needs, can get much different suggestions.
No offense taken. Looking for one that doesn't have PCI Express on it. It will be postgres/storage server. Thanks, James

This isn't what we usually call server class hardware. But we have a Gigabyte barebones system (comes with K8VM800M mATX board) with 1.6ghz Sempron64 that became a temp mail server in a moment of panic, and performed so well that it ended up becoming the permanent server. The board has three PCI slots and one AGP, onboard SATA, no PCI-e. It has onboard LAN and can take up to 2GB RAM (2x DDR slots). If you would consider this, I would recommend the barebones package. It's a very sturdy box, looks good, has good thermal design (comes with a 12" fan) and is very quiet. If I recall correctly the product code is GB-MB41LB. We've deployed a couple of these where serious server hardware isn't required, and they've served us very well. Hans

Well some people may say they are cheap and nasty but i have always used ASROCK boards and never had a badun yet 32 bit and 64 bit Oh the 64 bit one is PCI AGP as i did not want PCI Express either ..(gotta save funds somewhere) Pete . -- The Labour party has changed there emblem from a rose to a condom as it more accuratley reflects the governments political stance. A condom allows for inflation halts production destroys the next gereration, protects a bunch of pricks, and givesyou a sense of security while you are actually bieng fucked from GSM

I have many machines running Athlon 64bit proc's. My recommendation is to go with any motherboard that uses nVidia chipset. They strive to make sure they have the latest drivers for Linux. My latest server has a nVidia Pro 2200 chipset. Seems to run very smoothly. Brad Dameron SeaTab Software www.seatab.com
